Join us on a scenic walking tour through the charming and historic districts of Nezu (根津) and Yanaka (谷中) in Tokyo. These areas are known for their nostalgic atmosphere, unique shops, traditional architecture, and cultural landmarks.

The journey begins in Bunkyo-ku's Nezu district at 2-18 Nezu, an area lined with quaint streets and historic buildings. One of the highlights early on is MIYANO-YU, followed by a brief encounter with two adorable local cats.

Visitors will also pass by the Tokyo Nezu Stained Glass Museum & Guest House, which showcases beautiful stained glass works, as well as OLD TOWN HOUSE Nezu, a historical structure preserving the area's past. Art lovers can enjoy a stop at Gallery Marhi (㋪), a unique artistic venue.

Continuing along Kototoi Street (言問通り), walkers will come across notable eateries such as Nezu Udon Kamatake (根津うどん 釜竹) and Hantei (はん亭), both offering delicious traditional Japanese cuisine.

Further along, we reach Gyokurinji Temple (玉林寺), home to serene temple grounds, and the Chiyonofuji statue (千代の富士像), honoring the legendary sumo wrestler. A small but interesting sight is an old-fashioned hand pump (手押しポンプ) in the area.

Yanaka Fuji (谷中富士) offers a scenic spot resembling the famous mountain, while the Old Mikado Bread Store (旧みかどパン店) and its large tree add more charm to the district. The Daimyo Clock Museum (大名時計博物館) provides insights into Japanese timekeeping history.

The walk also takes you up Miurazaka (三浦坂), a notable slope in the area, before ending with two unique locations: Nennekoya (ねんねこ家), a cat-themed establishment, and a fascinating café where visitors can interact with birds (鳥のいるカフェ).

This walking tour captures the charming mix of traditional and modern life in Nezu and Yanaka, making it a must-visit for those who appreciate Tokyo’s older, more nostalgic side.
